I love eating out! Here are of few of the revisions I've made to my normals and some helpful tips..
Coffee!!! No more white chocolate mochas for me. Instead, my friend Krista got me hooked on sweetened iced coffee with half and half in it. I am surprised how delicious it is! I am hooked. And it is only 110 calories for a grande.
If I am on the go and need something quick, instead of McDonalds or Wendys (which I love), I have resorted to Subway as being my go-to place. I think it's safe to say it's pretty healthy.
Red Robin...YUM!! If you know me, you know I could live there and be happy. Absolute favorite restaurant. My new favorite there is the garden burger with a side of freckled fruit. I haven't even missed not having fries all the times I have been there.
Ok..now for my "eating out tip"..
If I know I am going to be eating out that day (whether it be food or even just coffee), I plan ahead of time what I am going to get! If I am going somewhere I haven't eaten healthy at, I will go online and find the nutrition menu. That way I know what I am eating before I get there! Plus, I will log it in on MyFitnessPal. That way I know how many calories I can still eat during the day, but still be fine eating out.
Warning..looking at a nutrition menu may make you sick! I went to Spaghetti Factory last night and the nutrition menu was gross!! Soooo many calories and soooo many carbs!! But I planned and alowed myself 600 calories so I could have a meal. I gave up my ice cream.
Man I feel like I ramble on. Hope that was at least helpful. Just from my experience. Hope you all are having a great Easter!
It's a great idea to look at the Nutrition menu before you go to Any restaurant. It's definitely an enlightening moment.
ReplyDeleteJim and I went to Olive Garden for Valentines Day and the waiter about fell over when I asked for the nutrition menu. "Are you SURE you want to look at it?" "Yes."
DeleteI explained that anything on the menu would be a treat, but I would prefer a 500 calorie treat over a 1500 calorie treat.
:) :) :)
I have my own espresso machine, and I still LOVE my daily mochas. :) I can make a 24 oz. sugar free Raspberry Mocha with whipped cream for just 125 calories (using 1% milk). Yummm . . .
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've had a fast food burger since last summer. Subway is totally my go-to fast food restaurant. LOVE an oven-baked chicken sandwich with all the veggies. Yummm . . .
Red Robin? Oh my. I avoid that place like the plague. I haven't found anything on the menu that comes close to the California Chicken Burger and Fries. So, I stay away. I think I've been twice since last June. But . . . I have found other restaurants where Jim can get a nice burger and I can have a nice steak or chicken salad. :) Went to The Ram with Gregg, Kayla, and Noah this weekend and enjoyed the "Hippie Chick" salad for about 400 calories, while they ate their burgers and fries for about 1500 calories. I had checked out online menus of restaurants, and if we hadn't had Noah with us, I would have loved to try one of the salads at Katie Downs. (Jim suggested Spaghetti Factory, but I knew I would end up with a Chicken Fettucini Alfredo that would put me back way too many days.)
Keep up the GREAT work!
Laurel
That is such great advice about the nutrition information, I do the same now!
